Ending the throwaway society — donate medical aids instead of discarding them
Every year in Germany, thousands of used wheelchairs, walkers, and care beds end up in basements — or worse, in the trash. Yet these aids are literally life-essential for many people in developing countries and conflict regions. A wheelchair gathering dust unused here can give someone elsewhere back their participation in society. A care bed discarded here can bring dignity and comfort to someone in need in a crisis region.
As a master orthopaedic technician, I see every day how important medical aids are for people's quality of life. That's exactly why it was a personal concern of mine from the start, with Werderland Orthopädietechnik, not only to provide care — but also to help wherever possible.
What we collect
We accept used medical aids that are still functional or can be repaired with little effort:
- Wheelchairs (manual & electric)
- Walkers
- Care beds
- Prostheses
- Orthoses
The condition doesn't need to be perfect — we check every aid and decide together whether and how it can be passed on.
Where do the donations go?
The collected aids are passed on to people in developing countries and conflict regions — areas where medical care and aids are hardly accessible or simply unaffordable. Every donation counts. Every aid that finds a new owner is a small contribution against the throwaway society and for more humanity.
